Film Mama Bears

Mama Bears + panel

Posted on 5 September 2022, 16:053 October 2022, 22:41 by Femke5

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 7th 19:30 – 21:30 @ Kriterion

“Wednesday TransDay”

We are hosting the European premier of the documentary ‘Mama Bears’, accompanied by a panel conversation with Laura Kok, Jolanda Molenaar, Mikkie van der Mik and Marjon Letters.

Daresha Kyi | USA | 2022 | 90 min | English spoken | Documentary

Spread across the country but connected through private Facebook groups, over 30,000 mothers in America—many from conservative, Christian backgrounds—fully accept their LGBTQ+ children. And they call themselves “mama bears” because while their love is warm and fuzzy, they fight ferociously to make the world kinder and safer for all LGBTQ+ people. Mama Bears explores the journeys of two mama bears and a young lesbian whose struggle for self-acceptance exemplifies why the mama bears movement is vitally important.

Afterward, we will have a panel conversation (Dutch spoken!) on the intersection of being transgender, nonbinary, or genderqueer, and being Christian. We will talk with people who have found their place in their church, the tensions it can bring, and the opportunities that arise. The goal is to create an open dialogue with space for different experiences and perspectives.
