After hosting an online festival, we are happy to be back at Kriterion and JACO for another in-person edition. The core team will introduce themselves and the festival during opening night. We will screen the short video art installation ‘Trans People Applauding’ and the documentary ‘North By Current’. Afterward, there will be a Q&A with filmmaker Angelo Madsen Minax. We will end the night with drinks, fingerfood from Hummus and Habibis and a chat at the Kriterion cafe, accompanied by live music from the Genderbend! Below is some extra information.

Trans People Applauding
Zafira Vrba Woodski | Sweden | 2021 | 2 min | No dialogue | Video art

Trans folx are magical beings. When we fill up a room, no one doubts that trans is the future.

North By Current
Angelo Madsen Minax | USA | 2021 | 85 min | English spoken | English subtitles

A raw, honest, and personal film, gripping from start to finish. After the mysterious death of his young niece, filmmaker Angelo Madsen Minax returns to his Michigan hometown and offers an experimental take on two storylines of loss and grief. Provoking internal searches rather than clear explanations or easy answers, ‘North By Current’ delves into the challenges of identity formation, the pains of growing up, and the always fickle nuances of the family.

Watch the trailer.

Genderbend:
The Genderbend will play acoustically after the film screening in the small foyer.

De Genderbend was founded in 2001 when the Transgender Film Festival was first organized in Amsterdam. The band consists of members of the trans community and a guitarist friend.

We performed at various events with rock bits and funky covers that we interpreted according to our own ideas.

Because of Corona we have been writing our own lyrics and music for 2 years. The songs reflect our vision, personal life path and passion: becoming/being yourself, freedom, love, struggle and humour. We play rock songs, funk, disco, reggae and so on

The Genderbend now consists of: Maya (bass guitar/vocals), Edwin (guitar) and one of the founding members of the band; Carlo (vocals).

in 2019 we performed during “May 17” and in Vrankrijk and in the summer of 2020 during the LGBTIQ+ film festival Sloterparkstrand.
